THE

PRE-DENTAL SCHOLARS PROGRAM

 

Admissions Requirements

 

The Pre-Dental Scholars Program, available only to incoming freshmen, provides for an acceleration  of the undergraduate education with the student completing requirements for the baccalaureate  with a Biology Major and  the D.D.S. degree  in seven yearsAdmission to this Program conditionally guarantees  the Scholar a place only in Marquette’s  School of Dentistry  at the end of the three year program ( and having earned  at least 98 credits) providing the student has successfully completed the requirements of the Program.  Scholars Major in the Biological Sciences.  Coordination of the Scholar’s Program is carried out by the Office of Pre-Professional Studies in the College of Arts and Science and the Scholar’s Advisor in the Department of Biological Science.

 

To qualify for admission to this Program applicants must have:

1.       SAT combined 1200; verbal and math scores at least 550 each, or ACT composite of

27 and all scores above 24.

      2.   Be in the top 25th percentile of their class

      3.   Have taken Biology and Chemistry with Physics highly recommended.

      4.   Have taken college-preparatory math including trigonometry.

      5.   Have taken at least 2 years of foreign language.

            

 Note:  Although not a mandatory requirement, recent accepted applicants typically have taken advanced, or AP, courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Math.. And when submitting your application, you should make sure that you list all courses in progress for your Senior year.

 

Academic Requirements of Program

 

Once accepted to the Program, the students are required to fulfill the following conditions:

      1.   Maintain a cumulative 3.500 grade point average in the undergraduate curriculum.

      2.   Receive no grade less than a “B” in any Science of Math course

 

Students who fail to meet the above academic requirements in any semester will be placed on probation the following semester.  A second probationary semester that is separated from the first one by a semester Of: Good Standing” is permitted. Two consecutive semesters of failing to meet the academic requirements will result in withdrawal from the program.  Students who are withdrawn from the Program are not precluded from applying to Marquette’s Dental School, or any other, they can still be considered for acceptance providing they then meet the conditions for acceptance in place at that time for that particular Dental School.

 

Although Marquette’s Dental School will hold a place for those scholars who successfully complete the Program students are not required to attend Marquette’s School of Dentistry.

 

The financial aid and scholarships that Scholars receive is applicable to only the first three years at Marquette.  After successfully completing the Program and being accepted into the Dental School the student must then apply for any financial aid and scholarships through the Dental School.

 

It should be noted that this Program only confers the baccalaureate degree  to  those  Scholars who successfully complete the Program and  attend Marquette’s School of Dentistry.  Scholars who successfully complete the Program and, for whatever reason,  choose to attend another Dental School are not eligible to obtain a baccalaureate degree from Marquette University
